Melissa & Danny – Castaway Island
Castaway Island, what a perfect place for a wedding! This pristine, private island was the ideal location for Melissa and Danny’s tropical wedding.

Melissa tells us how they met ‘We met through friends and became best friends. The rest is history!’ We loved helping these best friends create their dream day on Castaway Island.

When their guests arrived on Castaway Island, Melissa and Danny had arranged for welcome bags to be waiting in their rooms. They filled them with snacks, drinks, Pure Fiji sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellant and playing cards. Such a special touch and a great way to greet your guests.
To start the celebrations, the couple organised for a big island themed sunset cocktail party the night before the wedding. They enjoyed canapes and cocktails at sunset followed by many more cocktails and pizzas later in the night.
Melissa and Danny were married on the beach. The location couldn’t have been any more amazing!

On the day, the bride looked beautiful in a custom dress By Norma Bridal Couture.

The bridesmaid wore gowns the Stella and Samara Gowns from Bridesmaids Only and the flowergirl wore a Lace and tulle dress from KingSoleil on Etsy.

We love the casual beachside look of the groom and his groomsmen. They all wore shirts and chinos from Industrie and bow ties from Roger David.

Melissa bought silk flowers by Silkflora in Petersham to decorate the tables for the reception and for the bouquets. We think they look beautiful and what a great idea for when you can’t get the type of flowers you really want.

At the reception the guests enjoyed a seafood buffet followed by a two tier chocolate and caramel mud cake.

While the guests stayed at the bar and danced until dawn, Melissa and Danny snuck off to reminisce about their amazing day. When we asked Melissa and Danny about their whole wedding experience Melissa says ‘Aside from marrying my best friend in paradise, seeing the smiles on our guests faces every day was so special to Danny and I. Castaway is truly the most magical place we’ve ever visited and we are so blessed to now be part of the Castaway family. Nothing will ever compare to the experience we all shared together’.

We were so thrilled to help Melissa and Danny create their perfect wedding day and Melissa says ‘The whole thing would have been a nightmare if not for the fabulous Chelsea!’.
Thank you to Leezett Photography for the beautiful photos.
Jessica & Brad – Sheraton Fiji
Jessica and Brad wanted a small and intimate wedding and decided that Fiji would be the perfect location to celebrate the occasion with their family and friends. I was excited to help them plan their wedding and travelled to Fiji to make sure everything ran smoothly on the day.

The Sheraton Fiji provided a picture perfect backdrop for their special day and the days leading up to the wedding. Jessica, Brad and their guests enjoyed all that the Sheraton had to offer including island day trips, a trip to Cloud 9, dive courses and a lot relaxing by the pool.
Jessica looked beautiful on her wedding day in a stunning white lace fish tail gown.

The bridesmaids wore gorgeous flowing maxi dresses.

Brad and his groomsmen went for a casual island look in their white shirts and rolled up brown 3/4 pants.

Jessica and Brad were married under a canopy of white tulle and greenery by the water’s edge.

The reception was outdoors under palm trees strung with twinkling fairy lights. It looked magical!

Jessica and Brad thought the suppliers who helped them make their day perfect were excellent. They were particularly impressed with the buffet style dinner served at the wedding which was one of the highlights of the day for them.

Jessica and Brad spent their honeymoon on lush tropical Toberua Island which is located off the eastern side of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu.

We asked Jessica and Brad to give some advice to couples planning a wedding in Fiji and they said ‘Be patient. Everything will come together and trust your planner. Chelsea has excellent experience with Fiji weddings. I look back on our day with pure happiness and no regrets. It was the best day of my life!’.

Thank you to Nadi Bay Photography Fiji for the gorgeous photos and we were also very excited to see Jessica and Brad’s wedding featured recently on the Bula Bride blog.

To relieve the stress of coordinating all of the overseas components required for the ceremony.
Would you recommend hiring a wedding planner?
Definitely!
What did you think of all the wedding suppliers that were involved in your wedding?
They were fantastic. Everything was so organised and stress free.

What advice would you give a couple organising a wedding in Fiji?
Go to one of the island resorts instead of getting married on the mainland.

Jenna sent us this message during her stay at Vomo ….
‘Just a quick note to say that everything was perfect and more magical than we could have imagined. Thank you so much for everything you did for us. The day was completely stress free and Ashely and Bruce were amazing.’
A big thank you to Bruce from Zoomfiji Photography (http://zoomfiji.com) for the beautiful photos. Great job as always and we love working with you!
Mainland V’s Islands
The first big decision you will make for your wedding (apart from choosing your wedding planner, of course) is your venue. When getting married in Fiji you have either the mainland resorts (Denarau or the Coral Coast are the most popular) or the Islands (the Mamanuca Islands are the favourites) to choose from.
There is a lot to consider when deciding on which location will best suit not only you but your guests as well. You will need to think about the logistics of having up to 50-100 guests on average, and how your decisions will affect their ability to attend. My clients often make the mistake of thinking many of their invitees won’t attend, yet around 90% are overwhelmed by the number of positive RSVP’s they receive. Everyone wants to go to a wedding in Fiji!
First, you need to consider the time it will take for guests to travel to your destination and the costs involved. Traditionally getting to an island will take longer and cost more. Also, depending on the time of your guests’ flight arrival, they may even need to stay on the mainland overnight, prior to transferring to an island. Ferry transfers are an additional cost to flights, and can add another AUD$140 (approx.) return, and can take around 2 hours each way, depending on the distance of the island from the mainland, and ferry schedules. If considering an island destination, you need to consider the requirements and limitations of your guests. Elderly guests and people with small children may have concerns with the remoteness of an island. The Islands are generally more expensive than the mainland, as everything requires additional transport, increasing costs for most items, which is reflected in the quoted rates.
A major drawcard for having your wedding on an island are the beautiful white beaches, crystal clear water and marine life. The islands are truly amazing and offer such a different experience to the mainland. Some islands are available for exclusive hire for your wedding – how amazing would that be! Island time is also very relaxing, children are so well catered for, and most islands have a meal package so guests need not reach for their wallet all the time. There’s nothing like getting away from everything to relax in such a beautiful environment.
The mainland as a wedding destination has its own strengths and weaknesses. It’s easy to get to with no additional costs (apart from a Taxi fare from the airport). If you want 5 star luxury with all the modern conveniences then the mainland is for you. There are lots of different levels of accommodation available so that all your guests will be catered for, whether they be single, young couples or parents with young children. There are also a large number of dining out options on the mainland to suit everyone’s taste and budget.
I often hear feedback from my brides that the mainland is certainly more Westernised, and that the real “Fiji” feel is more abundant on the islands, where traditional culture is strongly maintained.
I love both locations as wedding venues. Your decision which to go for really depends on what you are envisaging, your budget, and the number/requirements of guests you are inviting.
At the end of the day you also have to remember it is your day, so go with what your heart tells you.
